Overview
Eastern Oregon Information Network (EOIN) version 3.0 is the third generation of an online tool to be used for resource sharing principally between Libraries of the Sage system. Presently there are 17 libraries in the Sage system whose circulation is integrated into the Sage catalog. These libraries will continue to use the Sage direct requesting function between them. They will also continue to use the EOIN system for Journal article requests and for request of materials found outside of the Sage system, e.g. through the OCLC network. The remaining 53 libraries and other EOIN partners will need to use the EOIN direct requesting system for all resource sharing through Sage and OCLC. The 17 libraries above will also rely on the EOIN direct requesting feature to borrow and lend directly with these 53 libraries.

Summit (Orbis / Cascade Alliance)
The EOIN system is for requesting materials from both within the system and from libraries outside of the system. The Sage catalog has the ability to search the much larger Summit Catalog. Summit is a consortium of 30 academic libraries in Oregon and Washington, which share a common catalog. If you or your patron desires material in the Summit catalog you will need to make an OCLC request. To do so, choose OCLC in the Lending String on the New Request page. You can place OCLC at the end of the string if Sage libraries hold the item, or make OCLC the only selection for items in Summit or libraries outside the Sage and Summit systems. When you find an item in Summit, include the ISBN or ISSN number with your request; we will not necessarily get the item from an Summit institution, so the name of the Summit school owning a title is not as important as a standard number for the item.
Please note that OCLC requests incur a $3.00 charge. This charge is a cost recovery fee for the fee incurred by an OCLC search. If the search is performed not filled, the charge is still incurred!
The Patriot Act
The Patron field needs to be considered carefully in light of the recently passed PATRIOT Act. For your patron’s privacy, consider what you do with the patron information once the request is completed. Currently EOIN purges this Patron field after a request has completed, has expired, or been cancelled for 1 month. We would greatly appreciate hearing any feedback or concerns you might have.
