Introduction
The reason a writer writes a book is to forget a book
and the reason a reader reads one is to remember it.

Recognizing books is almost as important as writing them. Because of that, this bibliography records books published by Eastern Oregon University alumni authors. Since the university celebrates the 75th anniversary this year, finding and recognizing books that past students have written is highly appropriate. Begun in 2003, the project is not finished. I am still searching for authors and data and verifying entries. The following document summarizes the data that has been found thus far. When completed, the entries will use a new format combining MLA style with library bibliography, such as non-textual matter and publication status. A brief abstract describing the content of each book will identify the subject matter and details about the publication. Currently there are nearly 140 books by 25 authors listed. This bibliography does not reflect all articles, stories, poems, and other works published in various forms. There are, undoubtedly, countless other works written by Eastern Oregon University alumni that are worthy of such recognition. However, the bibliography does include information I have uncovered involving books written by Eastern Oregon University alumni since 1938. Both students who graduated and students who attended are included. The dates for writers who attended may or may not reflect continuous quarters of enrollment or study. Originally this bibliography began as a group project for Dr. Axelrod's Writing 351 class. However, over time it grew into a personal assignment for everyone involved. I would like to acknowledge Debbie Davey, David Axelrod, Jodi Varon, Carol Ann Thew, Grady Goodall, and Dea Hoffman for their assistance. I would especially like to thank George Venn, whose patient mentoring and wise suggestions motivated me to continue this project, which I expect to finish by June 2005. Because this information will continuously change, corrections and additions are welcome. Please contact me at mittsl@eou.edu or (541) 962-6157.
