Policies and Procedures Handbook

Collection Development : Overview

The collection development policies reflect the mission and vision statements of Eastern Oregon University and Pierce Library. The purpose of the policies is to clearly state the principles, and guidelines of collection management in Pierce Library; related but not limited to the activities governing the selection, acquisition, processing, organization, and preservation of the collection. These documents will also outline the procedures to be followed in the withdrawal of materials from the collection.

The policies describe the current state of the general collection and particular specialized collections as well as defining goals for those collections. This is useful both for ensuring consistency over time among those who have responsibility for developing the collections, and for communicating the Library's collecting policies and goals to faculty, staff, students and other members of the university community.
