The EOU library will participate in coordinated collection development projects with libraries with which we have resource-sharing agreements (for example libraries who are members of the Sage Library System or the Orbis Cascade Alliance). Cooperative collection development within a consortium should decrease system wide redundancy for the lesser-used items, allowing all libraries to benefit from the opportunity to spend more of their budget on unique materials. Cooperative collection development can also involve designating certain libraries as repositories for archival copies of common resources, thus freeing up needed shelf space in other libraries across the consortium.
The Eastern Oregon University library supports a primarily undergraduate liberal arts curriculum and therefore does not collect comprehensively in specific subject areas. It relies upon the holdings of other libraries and institutions within the state, particularly the Oregon University System and Orbis Cascade Alliance, for access to information beyond what is available in the library. However, resource sharing will not be used as a replacement for ongoing collection development.
