Policies and Procedures Handbook

Library Administration: Vacation and Absence from Campus

The Library will adhere to the guidelines for vacation time, flex time, or release time as outlined in the faculty staff handbook and in applicable union agreements. Staff should arrange leave through their immediate supervisor. If conflict arises in scheduling, the Library Director will be consulted. While every effort will be made to allow vacation time at the time desired, the Director should ensure that any granted leave still allows for sufficient coverage in all areas, including backup staff for critical operations.

  • According to Oregon Administrative Rules, faculty and administrative faculty are classified in unrepresented status, thus are not eligible for compensatory time for overtime work in excess of the 40 hours per week.
  • Release time for significant extra work hours is available, if desired. It should be taken within two weeks, coordinated through the immediate supervisor to ensure coverage of the essential duties. Release time is not connected to vacation time and shall not be saved toward extra vacation days.
  • Regular flex time is available only in situations where the position duties or the library workload allow it. Due to the distribution of workload throughout the work week during the academic year, "4-10" flex time will only be available during summers. That opportunity shall be equally available to all.
