Pierce Library Renovation 2011-2012

Pierce library is undergoing a major renovation over the 2011-12 academic year. A temporary library location has been set up in the old Ackerman gym, administrative offices have been moved to the third floor of Hunt Hall, and the collections have been moved to Quinn Coliseum or to storage. We anticipate that this long awaited renovation will greatly enhance our services and user satisfaction.

Services

Public services (reference, computers, study areas, circulation, and interlibrary loan) have been moved to the Ackerman Library, located in the old gym just east of Ackerman Hall.

Collections

Ackerman Library

A small portion of the library's collections are available at the Ackerman Library. These items include:

Closed stacks

A significant part of the library's collections has been moved to the small gym at Quinn Coliseum and is accessible only to library staff. Items at this location will be identified in the online catalog with "closed stacks" in the shelving location. These items are available for use on request.

Use the "request" link from the catalog entry to place a hold on any item you wish to use, and it will be brought to the Ackerman Library for you to pick up. Items will be retrieved twice daily, and you will receive an email when your item is ready. If you need to use periodicals (journals or magazines) please contact the circulation desk with your request to make sure we get the correct volume/issue to you.

Materials in the closed stacks include:

The closed stacks at Quinn will be opened for public browsing on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm-5pm through April, 2012. There will be no public access to the closed stacks after April due to an interim move. Contact the library director for more information.

If you will be visiting EOU to do genealogical research or other research that requires access to archival materials, please contact us with the time you expect to arrive and the kinds of materials you hope to use.

Storage

Items that are not at Ackerman or in the closed stacks are in storage and unavailable for the year. These items will not be displayed in the library catalog. If you need a particular item that is in storage, you can see whether a copy is available through the Summit Catalog or place a request through Interlibrary Loan.

(For the curious, a list of items in storage is available as an Excel spreadsheet.)

Online resources

Online resources such as article databases and electronic books will be available without interruption throughout the renovation.
